mystérium slovenského malomesta - SAMČO, BRAT DÁŽĎOVIEK

Slovakia

Samčo, brat dážďoviek (Samčo, brother of earthworms), is a musician and performer best known for his project mystérium slovenského malomesta (Mystery of the Slovak Small Town) /Bzdochomat/. It is a long-running video walking series that documents and uniquely reflects smaller Slovak towns and their everyday environments. In it, Samčo explores architecture, public space, and visual details such as mosaics, graffiti, shop windows, and urban fragments, which he comments on in a distinctive, often ironic and intuitive way. He occasionally uses sound effects, but the core of the project remains observational video walks with spoken commentary.

At the festival, this format will be translated into a live site-specific walking performance through the town of Jelšava, where Samčo will guide the audience in person and interpret the urban and visual layers directly on location.

Samčo also has a long background in music and performance. He has been active since childhood, often collaborating with his brother, and has participated in various projects across the experimental scene. He has performed at events such as the Next Festival in Bratislava in an improvisational formation with Georgio Cremaschi. His musical work moves between lo-fi, experimental electronics, songwriting, and 8-bit aesthetics, often with elements of humor and recesive commentary. He is a recipient of the RHA award for experimental music.

The program will also include a performative workshop expanding his approach to the city as a space of observation, interpretation, and shared experience.
