Lichočar
witch folk | dark pagan folk | soundtrack | fantasy folk | progressive folk

Lichočar is a Brno-based band playing their own style called witch folk – music that blends folklore, alternative sounds, and myth-inspired storytelling. The project was born in 2018 from a single invented word and a question: who or what is Lichočar?

This seven-member group of “jezinky” (a gender-neutral term) combines both traditional and unconventional instruments – mandolin, flute, Celtic harp, jaw harp, shruti box, davul, and more – with layered female vocals in various languages. They draw inspiration from Slavic and broader European mythology and folklore, but create entirely original music.

Their debut album Lichočar (2022) and the EP Tři matičky (2024) form a musical narrative tied to a forthcoming novel. Beyond performing at pagan and fantasy-themed events, they also host their own Samhain celebration in Brno each autumn.
