Young artist duo Jarmila Mitríková and Dávid Demjanovič entered the art scene with paintings using the technique of pyrography. One of these works won the competition called Painting – VUB Foundation Award for Painting for Young Artists in 2011.

After finishing their study at High School of Visual Arts and Design in Košice, they both graduated from Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava in 2011. Mitríková (*1986) studied in Ceramic studio of prof. Ivica Vidrová and in Painting studio of prof. Ivan Csudai. Demjanovič (*1985) studied at Intermedia and Multimedia Department led by Anton Čierny. Although they both were successful in their own carriers, they became joined by their common project of pyrography burning.

In their work, they merge several motives connected to our geopolitical situation such as Christian and pagan traditions, mysticism, superstitiousness and superstitious stories, history and its mystification, public mass social events, folklore and folklorism, nationalism etc. When creating their paintings, they frequently use the narrative techniques borrowed from historical figurative compositions and works of landscape-painting. Both artists regularly exhibit their work in Slovakia as well as abroad and they have participated in residencies in Switzerland and Holland. We can find their work in various collections, e.g. Slovak National Gallery collection, Nitra Gallery collection, Novohrad Museum and Gallery Lučenec collection etc.
