Inade is a German dark ambient duo, active since 1991, consisting of Knut Enderlein and René Lehmann. Their sound lies at the crossroads of dark ambient, industrial, and ritual music, strongly influenced by mythology, occult traditions, and cosmological concepts.
Since their debut Aldebaran (1996), they have gained recognition as one of the essential projects of the European dark ambient scene. Later releases such as The Crackling of the Anonymous (2001) and Colliding Dimensions (2005) confirmed their reputation as pioneers of the genre. Inade’s work is often described as “sonic archaeology” – an exploration of unseen dimensions through droning layers, structural recordings, and ghostly voices evoking contact with the otherworldly.
The duo founded the label Loki Foundation, which not only published their own material but also became a platform for other key post-industrial and dark ambient acts (e.g. Herbst9, First Law, Predominance). Inade collaborated and shared stages with influential projects like Coil, Lustmord, and several Cold Meat Industry artists.
Their live performances at festivals such as Maschinenfest, Wave Gotik Treffen, Stella Natura, Brutal Assault, and LVXNOX are renowned for combining immersive soundscapes with striking visuals and strong conceptual frameworks.
Their discography spans numerous releases on CD, vinyl, and cassette, many of them rare or limited editions, and their legacy stands as a cornerstone of European post-industrial and dark ambient music.
