DRŤ

Slovakia / Czech Republic

Drť was founded by Miroslav Tóth in 2019 and has since released four studio albums. Two of them (Puntičkár [2020] and Minister [2022]) were created in collaboration with Michal Kaščák and were based on transcripts of testimonies - for example, interviews of former StB general Alojz Lorenc, or recordings of Marian Kočner with Ján Počiatek and Dobroslav Trnka. Later the band recorded the album Circle or Spiral? with Fedor Gál, for which it won the Dominik Tatarka Prize (2024). In 2024, it released the album Drôtenky in collaboration with Zuzana Husárová.

Whispering into the noise of falling bombs will never be well heard. At the same time, even that ‘deafening scream doesn't help’ and the killing hasn't stopped. This is a protest and also the conclusion of the lyrics of one of the darkest songs of the band DRŤ Eyes Without Whites from the EP of the same name. This one, alongside the second track Rhythm of Blood, thematises the inability to stop the brutal killing of civilians, civilian women and children in wars in the Gaza Strip or Ukraine. The band features a new line-up with Zuzana Husárová as experimental vocalist, Miro Tóth (baritone saxophone), Jan Faix (keyboards) and Marian Leskovsky (drums). In Eyes Without Whites, the vocalist tOmO (XCES) joins the band, who also took care of the baritone guitar part. DRŤ also re-recorded selected tracks from the album Drôtenky to introduce the band's current sound.
